Charles B. Pyke, Ph.D.

Expert Witness Climatologist

FORENSIC DISCOVERY and EXPERT WITNESS TESTIMONY:

Charles B. Pyke, Ph.D., Expert Witness Climatologist and Meteorologist, is the Principal Scientist and Primary Expert Witness of  Associated Science Experts, LLC and American Weather & Hydrology, LLC.  He offers a variety of specialized climatological and meteorological services to the legal and insurance professions, government, business, industry, the media, and the general public.

Dr. Pyke is a well-known, highly experienced expert in his field.  His professional experience as a meteorologist and climatologist dates back to 1960, with hundreds of cases as a court-qualified expert witness since 1989.  He has testified in court trials dozens of times and in depositions in even more cases.  Most of his cases involve civil litigation (almost equally divided between plaintiff and defense), but Dr. Pyke has testified in numerous criminal cases (both prosecution and defense), including some high-profile cases, and in several arbitration hearings.  He has served as expert on a number of insurance claims that did not go into litigation.

Some of the climatological elements and related atmospheric and light-level conditions which Dr. Pyke investigates in his forensic discovery include:

Rain  Lightning  Hail  Wind  Freezing rain  Snow.

Fog  Blizzards  Dust storms  Sand storms.

Microbursts  Tornadoes  Severe thunderstorms.

Sun glare  Sunrise  Sunset  Cloud cover.

Twilight  Moonrise  Moonset  Moon phase.

Extreme temperature  Extreme humidity.

Dr. Pyke can testify as an expert witness anywhere in the U.S., Canada, or in selected other countries.

In addition to  forensic discovery and expert witness testimony, Dr. Pyke can provide, as requested:

  • Certified weather, radar, satellite, flood, sun, moon, and other data from a 30-trillion-byte data base.

  • Expert data analysis;  pinpoint data interpolation, and high-resolution data mapping and graphing.

  • Scientific investigation of evidence.

  • Visits to sites of crimes, accidents, floods, fires, wind damage, etc.

  • Consultation with attorneys and other experts.

  • Preparation of reports, tables, and charts, as requested.

Dr. Pyke works closely with our forensic Hydrologic Engineer, William J. Trott, Ph.D., P.E., on cases involving rainfall and flooding.  Dr. Pyke also works very closely with our data mapping, interpolation, and analysis expert, Meteorologist Timothy E. Wright.  All three of these experts have served together as an expert trio on a number of rain-generated flood cases.

Résumé (C.V.) of Dr. Pyke

Forensic Discovery, Analysis, and Expert Witness Testimony  for legal and insurance cases related to weather, floods, sun glare, twilight, moonlight, and other natural phenomena – many hundreds of cases as a court-qualified expert witness, including testimony in many dozens of  court cases and even more depositions.

Rain, snow, freezing rain, hail, fog, wet, icy, or snow-covered ground or roadways, temperatures, cloud cover, sun glare, sunset, sunrise, moon phase, drought, floods.

Frequency or return period of precipitation and various other weather phenomena.

Meteorological, Climatological, Hydrometeorological, and Other Scientific Research and Development:

Climatic research and investigations of historical weather events, including storms and floods.

Development of intense storm rainfall, snow melt, and wind for design of dams, reservoirs, and flood control channels, including Probable Maximum Precipitation for the worst-case flood scenario--critical to the safety of dams.

Research projects and studies in meteorology, climatology, and hydrometeorology.

Weather Forecasts and Seasonal Weather Outlooks:

Customized weather forecasts for film production companies, major media events, construction and roofing, agriculture, and many other applications.

Monthly and seasonal weather outlooks for the United States as a whole, for regions or states, and for specific locations (a specialty of Dr. Pyke).  Now providing multi-year weather outlooks and offering global warming climate change modeling, including thermo-haline ocean circulation modeling and its effects on climate change..

Climatic, Meteorological, Hydrologic, and Seismic Data, plus Pinpoint Interpolation to Specific Locations:

Provision of scientific and engineering data of all types from one of the most extensive data bases available (30 terabytes, or 30,000 gigabytes), with archives back to 1948, along with high-resolution data mapping and graphing, plus precise, pinpoint interpolation to specific locations far from data measurements, and detailed expert data analysis.
